Our Idea

Who are we?

We are innovators, designers and disruptors.
We want to take on the toy industry.
Our team is skilled in structural design, charitable distribution and art.
As the sole proprietor I have personally witnessed the fact that children have wild imaginations and want to build grand things. Sometimes it’s not possible for them to build a tree house, sometimes they can build pillow forts in the living room but that is temporary. I created PaperForts to let kids have creative freedom that’s theirs and they wont have to take down. To connect kids to their innovative minds and creative tendencies. We also wanted to give parents an opportunity to build or design something with their kids, away from the technology that eats up so much time these days.
Secondly, I have been personally touched by children living in poverty all over the world. Watching children under the age of eight working to help their parents, either selling raffle tickets on the street or sewing pouches to sell to tourists. Childhood is the period of unlimited dreaming, and children living in poverty do not have the luxuries of toys, therefore we want to help change that. To provide them with a slice of childhood after their long days. Neither them nor their parents will every have to pay a dime.
We wanted to help children all over the work awaken their creative spirits.
I personally have experience with non-profit distribution in remote areas of the world as I have worked with non-profits before. We will partner with charities to help us with distribution and to find candidates to receive the PaperForts.
We will partner with cardboard manufacturers to build, cut and print the PaperFort.
Natural Earth Paint will provide our eco-friendly non-toxic paint for our kits.
We will advertise online, specifically in community groups and young mother or future mother groups.
Initially the donor children will be from foster homes and orphanages that we have a working relationship with.
PaperForts aim to redefine the play fort.

What are we offering?

Cardboard Forts, for children to design, color and play in,
Shaped like a fortress, or a castle, children have the freedom to dream.
Each box will come with one fort, (1m x 1m x 2m) that pops up easily. Made from strong, treated cardboard. Non-toxic and water-proof.

For the personal design, the package will include black tape and five paint markers. In the color red, blue, green, yellow and purple. They can use the tape to make shapes and clear straight lines, the markers can then be used for them to design their fort however they imagine!

On top of this, each PaperFort purchased will send a child in need, a PaperFort and a toy set.
Packages are unisex and buyer can choose if the set is donated locally or internationally.

– Teddy Bear
– Action Figure
– Toy Car

The option to purchase a PaperFort for donation purposes is also available. (For the price of one PaperFort we will donate both in your name)

Our distinctive competencies

Our organization has many contacts in the under privileged areas of the world and many foster homes across Calgary. We aim to expand to other parts of North America for our donation recipients.
We have special partnerships with my non-toxic paint producers that creative cardboard emulsifying paint specifically for our treated cardboard.
For our cardboard producers we have special agreements to buy the precision cut cardboard in bulk at a bulk discount price (at cost) in order to use it for not for profit organizations.
We have artists and engineers that have designed the best cardboard structures.
We want to build a BRAND behind our giving community. PaperForts will never default on a donation package and we operate as a not for profit.
Created by a team of passionate individuals who have a genuine passion for child development and enabling children to be creative. The team at PaperForts believes that creativity unlocks every potential in every child.

The substitutes & alternatives

Current alternatives:
– Expensive and bulky doll houses that can be over 100 dollars.
– Outdoor play tents that offer no customization and are expensive.
– Tree Houses that are tall and dangerous
– Pillow or Furniture forts that need to be taken down sooner or later, and rearranging furniture can damage the floor or walls within the house.
– Other cardboard playhouses that are not social enterprises.

The Value

Our first key person

Our first key persons are the ones who are going to buy PaperForts. They may shop online or buy directly from toy stores.
We know that if they are a parent, they will have a young kid. They want cool alternatives and toys since kids grow fast.  PaperForts is a good project they can work on with their kids to fuel their creative outlet. They will also be helping another kid around the world. They are also buying toys that are eco-friendly and easily disposable. It will stop them from coming home to their living room a mess and the kids moving stuff around.
For the ones who aren’t parents, they will buy PaperForts and help two sets of children!

 

Our second key person

Our second key person is the kid that is using PaperForts.

No more coloring on walls, and no more day dreaming about a fort because now you’ll have one!
They can put up “No Boys Allowed” signs or draw flowers all over their princess castle. Possibilities are endless.
PaperForts can also be a safe place they crawl into when they want to bring a flashlight in and tell their friends stories. With the paint markers they can transform their fort, and then repaint over it to transform it again!

Our third key person

The children in need who are receiving the PaperFort pack and toy pack. We know that they are kids, and they want a fun childhood filled with imagination and creativity.
They care because we will provide them with toys, they can use PaperForts as a hide away to bring their imagination to life, and it will not cost their parents a dime.

We promise them that the PaperFort is theirs to design and enjoy. We promise them that our team will always have their fun as one of our first priorities and that someone in the world is vouching for their smile as well. As for their families, I hope the sound of your children laughing will bring you joy as I know it will bring the team at PaperForts joy.

    The PaperFort is a fantastic idea!! Children have a natural love for crafts, and my parents often tell me about how I drew all over the walls of our new home as a kid. If only I had PaperFort back then! I would’ve had all the “walls” to draw on as I would have liked. I cannot think of any further ways to perfect this product as you have already won yourself a customer! (Me)

    Very interesting idea, especially when coupled with the model of sending needy children a PaperFort for every one sold here in North America!

    Clear that the customer is parents who buy toys for their children, and maybe those parents care about sustainability and would rather not buy plastic toys that get thrown away.

    Capitalizes on the ability of children to play with anything via their imaginations, truly disruptive to the flashy toy market if the marketing can catch children’s attention. Potential issue with bratty kids who want something more colourful and flashy, so parents wont buy; there are plenty of cheap toys out there so why would a child want to assemble and decorate cardboard? It has to look really fun!

    Clearly the right person for the job, experience in charity and global distribution is an asset, and I love that the plan is to start with local orphanages as it helps our immediate environment.

    PaperForts is truly a one of kind product. The simplicity of the idea is what makes it so genuine. Parents will love the idea of a more affordable alternative to huge and expensive doll houses. The fact that kids can customise their own PaperFort is marvellous. Coupled with the idea that buying a PaperFort for your kid will give another child in need toys is great. I can truly see a passion in the creator of PaperForts, this passion is bright and willing to do anything to provide happiness for any child in the world. My only critique is that kids may not be satisfied with their PaperFort, pushing parents to either buy another one or look elsewhere on the toy market. Overall, this product is a strong contender for Toy of the Year for sure.
