WAXBOX

Wax your gear on the go!

Our Idea

Who are we?

Ryan Buckley has been an avid skier since he first strapped on the planks at the ripe age of 4 years old. With over 20 years of experience on the slopes, he knows better than anyone that we all need a good wax once in a while! Frustrated about leaving his skis at the shop overnight and paying someone else to tune his skis countless times, he decided to take the matters into his own hands and design the WAXBOX.

What are we offering?

A box*! Not just any box though. This box is filled with all your ski/snowboard tuning accessories inside. Wax, waxing iron, scraper, brush, have no fear, it’ll all be there! Optional package includes vise grips and other tools for sharpening.

*2 boxes actually, one fits neatly in the other for storage, features ski or snowboard indents for waxing on the go.

Who are we offering it to?

Skiers and snowboarders that want to go FAST and save money at the same time! Whether you are a university student or young professional who gets out multiple times a year, or a young family who gets out once or twice but wants to save a buck on gear maintenance, WAXBOX is for you! Look out for WAXBOX to partner with U of C Ski and Board Club in the near future – the 300* members will be testing our product next season!

*This is an estimate – actual numbers to be researched.

Why does that person care?

Buy this kit once and get hundreds of tune ups for less than the cost of 4 tune ups at the shop. Enjoy the ability to tune your skis/board anywhere – on the go, at home, even in the parking lot at the resort if you need!

Our distinctive competencies

We’ve designed the WAXBOX with 20 years of experience on the slopes. It is an all in one box that makes it possible to wax and/or sharpen your gear on the go. Why leave your skis at the shop overnight when you can wax your gear in the parking lot? Our innovative box design allows for the ski/snowboard to be held in place during waxing. The second box fits in the first box for easy storage.

The substitutes & alternatives

The prices for a tune on your skis in Calgary from Sports Rent can be found here. Essentially it boils down to $15 for a wax. The WAXBOX comes in at $90. Get endless waxes for the price of 6!

The Value

Our first key person

Our first key person is Scott the University student/young professional with time to ski 5-15 days a season. He generally skis on weekends.

Scott cares because he is going for a quick spur of the moment weekend trip. That means doesn’t have time to get his board tuned. He likes to be faster than all his friends so he NEEDS to have his board freshly waxed. He also often skis off-piste so he’s regularly gashing his wax in the middle of the trip.

Our promise to Scott is that he’ll be able to save money and wax his gear in a pinch whenever he needs to. Whether it’s when he gets to the hotel the night before, or in the middle of his trip after he hits a rock, Scott will be able to make his gear glide on that snow whenever he needs to.

Our second key person

Our second key person is Jason the family man. Jason has 2 young kids who love to ski, and he’s got a razor thin budget to make skiing happen for them. He generally fits in 1 ski trip a year with 2 days on the slopes. That means his family of 4 will have 8 days skiing between them.

Jason cares because waxing the family’s gear costs $60 per year – why should he have to shell that out every year? Plus his kids can wax their own gear for free and learn valuable life lessons while also being faster than their friends on the slopes.

Our promise to Jason is to provide a cheap, long lasting waxing solution for his whole family.

Our third key person

Our third key person is Larry the guy that makes ski/snowboard wax for a living. He’s a great guy.

Larry cares because he currently sells wax to ski shops for bulk discount prices. What if more consumers directly bought wax from him? What if each WAXBOX had his logo on it – free marketing!

Our promise to Larry is to ensure that he makes more money per package of wax than he currently can and to help him grow his brand.

Just an incredible idea I’ve always wanted to wax my snowboard, and now I can. The carboard is the best part! I must know, how did you come up with that? either way, I’d buy it.

I’ve only ever skied 4 times in my life, and even I am intrigued. Very well done Ryan, such an interesting product that solves a pretty practical problem for skiers.

A really exciting prospect. As someone who likes to go fast on the hill, any advantage is a bonus. I think this is the next step to put me over the edge in beating my friends.
Overall an amazing idea, I find the need to take my board to a shop is such a hassle, and the DIY aspect means many people can save money and learn to maintain their gear better overall.
