Roses For Life

Our Idea

Who are we?

I am Jacob Turnbull a passionate student at the University of Calgary. Three years ago my family experienced something really scary. We were all sitting at the dinner table enjoying our meal. Talking about the day and we ask my brother Adam a question. He didn’t respond and his eyes were tracing something on the wall in front of him that wasn’t there. He looked possessed. He was completely unresponsive to us and got up and started walking around the house.we started getting worried and called 911 and found out that Adam had his first seizure.

What are we offering?

I am offering a new way for schools or organizations to fund raise for epilepsy.  Instead of schools selling roses (Which die quickly and need the other person to be responsible for them) or candy grams (which are unhealthy). The institutes can sell our Roses For Life. They are extremely cheap to buy, composed of only cardboard and duct-tape. The Institutions get a great fund raiser and way to celebrate. The buyer’s get a roses they can give or gift to someone special and the receiver gets a beautiful no maintenance rose.

Who are we offering it to?

This product will be focused for schools or businesses. Although the product may have a large range of customers and is very accessible, in order to grow faster and larger amounts the target is institution.

Why does that person care?

The Schools and customers get to make a huge difference by supporting Epilepsy Foundation. They also get the opportunity to show their loved ones they care about them.

Our distinctive competencies

Growing up in Calgary I know many  kids and parents from almost every school in Calgary. Me and My siblings all went to the same school and this will be the starting school. Its a great independent so it can easily help test run roses for life.

The substitutes & alternatives

The schools have two main alternatives.

One selling some sort of candy grams: This can be an issue with allergies of participants. As well as this is unhealthy.

Two selling real flowers:  Roses last for one to two weeks after being cut with you watering them. As well as the roses for life is supporting a cause.

I like the idea. This is something I believe this is a great way to educate families about epilepsy. The cardboard roses would serve as a permanent reminder of the issue, keeping the issue in the mind and hearts of those who purchased them. Far beyond the initial satisfaction that comes with candygrams or real roses.

Great idea of a sustainable fund raising idea that last a long time, and raises awareness for a good cause! Also good to be used for specific holidays like Valentine’s Day, mother days, etc!
