the Card-BURN Box

Don’t bother scavenging the forest floor for kindling. Spend that time by a blazing fire instead.

Our Idea

Who are we?

Chemical Engineering student who is passionate about the outdoors and wants to help more people learn adventure skills for an awesome trip outside the city.

What are we offering?

An educational and convenient tool to help you start your campfire with ease, the first time. In the tinder-kindling arrangement unit, you will find an assortment of sustainably sourced materials such as sawdust that is collected as a byproduct from partner companies in the furniture industry, and bamboo which grows abundantly in Asia. Educational information enhances the user experience and learning opportunity. Just open the box up, set it beneath your wood teepee and set fire to the whole thing!

Who are we offering it to?

Beginning campers can use this tool as a way to learn about the building blocks to a successful campfire, fire safety, and emergency resources. Even more, the impressive convenience cuts down on the confusion of packing for a getaway! Boy Scouts, Girl Guides and survival novices can dissect the components and information included with the kit to gain a deeper understanding of well-executed fire skills.

Why does that person care?

The first couple times you try something new is tough. Why not learn how to start, tend to, extinguish, and respond to fire emergencies properly the first time so you develop a strong foundation and build good habits? Maybe you already know how, but you’re just seeking conveniences so that you can enjoy the fresh air a little more, worry free. The Card-BURN Box is here to make camping easier for you.

Our distinctive competencies

I have studied heat transfer phenomena and understand the principles and reactions involved in combustion. Taking this knowledge to the Card-BURN Box, I am able to optimize the amount of materials required and select materials to minimize harmful emissions and sustainability issues.

Packing for my own trips I know that size matters and minimizing the gear you pack out to the wilderness is best kept to a minimum. That’s why I designed this tool to be as compact as possible- so you just have what you need and no excess.

The substitutes & alternatives

The alternative is gathering twigs from the forest floor, granted that you’re lucky and are able to find a good amount that are dry enough to suffice. Throw some damp moss underneath and you’re sitting beside your pit trying to start a smoky fire while your whole family is giving up and heading back to the tent to keep warm. What’s even more inconvenient, is the restriction on burning foraged materials in National Parks!

Learn the basics of what you should bring from home and if you’d like to make your own Card-BURN Box you have all the knowledge you need! If you’d rather spend your energy otherwise, the Card-BURN Box is always here for you.

The Value

Our first key person

Our first key person is Jordan, a young Beaver-Scout who wants to learn more about wilderness survival, nature, and how to be a good camper

They care because they want to learn about the marvel of fire and how to be the hero at the firepit who gets a warm fire started for everyone to cook their s’mores.

Our promise to them is to provide an educational tool that promotes the understanding of how to start, manage, and control the fire. They get information on what fire is, some useful safety tips, and what resources to use in the event of an emergency.

Our second key person

Our second key person is Patti, a mother who wants to reduce the hassle of camping, and make sure her kids are learning useful skills for their future.

They care because Patti often forgets to bring materials from home and sometimes ends up (illegally) gathering tinder and kindling from the National Parks, and without luck on her side, she is only able to find damp moss and twigs that leads to hours of frustrating smoke that only teases her fire will start.

Our promise to them is a convenient, quick, and reliable start every time.

Our third key person

Our third key person is Kaitlyn, a novice camper who wants to become more confident in her outdoor adventures. She’s quite risk-averse and isn’t comfortable too close to a flame.

They care because understanding the basics of fire and fire control are the foundation to her confidence. She wants an easy way to get the fire roaring without having to crouch beside glowing tinder and blowing at the base, fearing that the sparks will flash back onto her face.

Our promise to them is a simple and easy-to-use kit that allows her to safely start the fire and build the confidence to start a fire without the tool one day!

When is the first education session? Sign me up! I am afraid of fire so this sounds awesome. I will no longer have to eat cold food on my camping trips– YAY!
