Our Idea

Who are we?

We are a group of people who are regular podcast users and have experience in software engineering and AI Algorithms.

What are we offering?

We are offering a mobile app for clipping a part of your favourite podcast when you hear something that you want to remember and look up later or share in facebook, instagram, or twitter. We also use speech-to-text algorithms to provide human readable transcripts of the clips to make it easy in case if you need to quote it or share.

Who are we offering it to?

Our offering is for people who listen to podcasts in transit.

Why does that person care?

Currently to clip the podcasts people are using complex desktop applications or websites which require them to read a textbook size documentation to figure out how to use it.

Our application uses an intuitive interface to enable users to learn the application quickly and efficiently. We also use speech-to-text algorithms to provide human readable transcripts of the clips to make it easy to search for it or share it.

Our distinctive competencies

At present there are no mobiles applications which are providing the same features.

Partnerships with the major podcasters to enable usage of our application.

User friendly and time saving feature for easy clipping of the podcasts.

The substitutes & alternatives

Alternatives include intricate desktop applications and websites which are time consuming and not user friendly on mobile phones.

Jason, Science teacher

Our second Pre-persona is Jason, science teacher for Grade 8 students . Jason is a very good teacher who puts his heart into teaching. This is because only by doing, so will the students feel their passion and hard work. He listens to many science related podcasts and he came across one interesting podcast related to Newton’s theory. He wants to clip 2 mins concept and transcript it to explain to students to understand well.

Ofcourse, “Clip it ” will help him to do it. In Spite of his busy schedule, using “clip it” will be easy accessible and fast and cost worthy.

Great pitch but try to look at the audience more. You guys have the target customers down it sounds like a great idea. The story was very easy to understand and put myself in that situation. With pretty much no competition out there you guys are going to be set. One concern i have is that people are saving clips of the podcasts so could that lead to legal problems if they share it or save it permanently.

Your story convinced me it was important for the hero of the story! I even wished I had a similar product to use as I watched your pitch video. 🙂
The statistics on podcast users helped me understand that there are many people who are potential customers.
Your first sentence could be a little punchier, take out some of the extra words.
Your pretotype looks simple and easy to use!
I didn’t hear anything about substitutes or alternatives…. are there any? If not, say that!
What makes it hard for other people to copy you?? Pursuing some kind of agreement with Spotify? (Or other podcast platform)

Unique idea that would be helpful in certain situations. I really like how you say all the stats at the beginning of your pitch. It really drives home the point of how many people are listening to podcasts.

What stops another company from creating a similar snipping tool and taking all of your customers? is there a way to minimize this risk? maybe mention something along these lines in your pitch.

I would put less text on your slides and rely more on your pitch and the words you say to carry your pitch and use the PowerPoint only to show what your app would look like

While I like the fact that you have narrowed down your customer base to podcast listeners that take transit, I’m curious why you decided to focus on them rather than other types of podcast listeners. I can’t see any features from your product that makes it best suited for transit users so that might be something you want to explore some more. The fact that your product can be used away from home (maybe you should say without an internet connection or data usage as many) does improve your distinctive competency and substitutes/alternatives but I am concerned about how you will get podcasts to employ your app and from there convert people from their current podcast apps. Discussions from people involved with podcasts and their support would go a long way in strengthening your offering and distinctive competency.

You should focus more on the application itself to clearly show how it works.
In (SA) most phones now have a screen recording option and they can easily record the part they want.
The value is there since i personally sometimes start memorizing times where i heard something important to go on later and take notes.

I like this idea. I actually spent some time rewinding through a podcast to really understand a particular idea earlier today and felt the pain of hunting with the “back 30s” button and scrubbing. So hi, I’m a person that fits your first pre-persona.

The first thing I asked myself was “is this a tool that only does clipping of audio files, or is it a fully featured podcast client?” I assume its a podcast client, but thats actually unclear from the pitch. What are the features of the major podcast players that you’ll have to catch up to before the feature you’re selling your application on is attractive enough to make a listener change platforms? Keep in mind that changing platforms means losing listening history and whatnot – high annoyance factor for some users maybe.

Marketing channels weren’t addressed. How will you reach people to get them to jump ship on their current podcasting client? For team, who do you have in your networks that has the skillset you’ll need to reach these people? If nobody, how do you plan to find the right help?

Convincing people to pay for apps up front is tough. Have you thought about offering podcasters insight into which sections of their content was clipped the most? They could find that valuable for their own marketing and analytics, so your users behaviour may be more valuable than their app-store purchase money.

I worry about copyright issues from clipping other peoples content as well as transcribing it. For me if you could get someone who represents the content side of podcasts on your team or as an adviser, that would greatly improve your team scores as well as Distinctive Competencies.

You prove that people listen to podcasts which is great but do people have this issue? Is this an issue that people would be willing to pay money to solve?

You’re doing A/B testing, which is also great, how many people are in the test? Having a bunch of people willing to test would also add to the credibility of your customer choice as well as the value proposition.

I worry a bit about what’s preventing current podcast apps from implementing a similar feature?

I think your power point was pretty good and nice save with the back up power point.

I like the idea as it is a common issue ideal with while driving and listening to audio books; I can’t write a reference/company name/quote down well I’m driving.

I use audible audio books often and various other apps that I purchase material in. Is there a way to capture this audio from these apps as well? I get that you would start with podcasts just a though for future as with my purchase history I’m not likely to stop using audibles.

A hands free voice activated capture would be a nice feature for drivers listening to podcasts.

The pitch is good but can you not read the pitch. Better and installs more confidence if you can deliver the pitch without reading.
Otherwise, I think the idea is great. I listen to podcasts a lot myself so this will be useful.

Very practical products fill the vacancies of editing, recording and transcribing functions.

But I’m curious whether the product is completely free, because I probably won’t use it very often, so I’m reluctant to pay to use this kind of software. At the same time, is the accuracy of transcription function reliable?

If it is me, I will focus on publicizing the uniqueness of the product, while doing a good job in software writing, and strive to improve the accuracy of transcription.

Amazing idea that solve the former problem I have met when I use the podcast. There is a wide customers target I think. One thing is the copyright issues may be a problem when the product become real. Taking this issue in the consideration and showing how to solve the copyright problem will be better. However, it is a great idea.

I really like the idea and it is convenient for me if I can use this application.
Break it: 1.My question is that people are saving video clips of podcasts, which can cause problems if they share or permanently save them.
2.About the alternative, what can prevented another company from creating similar screenshots and taking away all your customers?
Better it:if it is me, I will consider the customer(not only the people lisening podcast in transit)

Very specific prepersonas. Wonderful. Breaking it, i am concerned from a technical standpoint if your speech to text algorithm can distinguish between podcast jingles and tge actual podcast that might start during the intro music. But a small concern going forward.

Bettering it, I would suggest also suggesting what the revenue model would be on a very basic level.

This venture is very useful. I have nothing to break it . However, there may be a copyright problem. Hope you can fix it.
