our Bottle Bank

Make your life easier by earning your money back

Our Idea

Who are we?

We are the one who can help people get their money back, promote awareness of people on recycle. We are the one who is trying to make people’s life much easier than now with helping them get their profit back. We are Bottle Bank.

What are we offering?

Our machine can return the money back to customers only by throwing away their garbage as normal.

For Canadian, we can use the tap way. For Chinese, we could use qr code. And coupons or lotteries would be the options as well. Furthermore, in the future, after we improve our popularity and get a good reputation, we could use our screen to make advertisement in order to get some more profit.

Who are we offering it to?

  1. Beverage drinkers in schools and malls;
  2. Employees in malls;
  3. Government;
  4. Bottle Depot.

Why does that person care?

  1. For beverage drinkers, finding a good machine to throw away their garbage containers with getting their money back would be excellent.
  2. For employees in the malls, helping them clear up the space and improving their traffic are the benefits that they would love to see.
  3. For the government, increasing the public awareness on doing recycle would be a kind of candy of what they want to see.
  4. For Bottle Depot, one more group of people who can help them collect the garbage bottles and send them to depot directly would the thing they are willing to see.

Our distinctive competencies

Our design is truly innovative and distinctive. Except for some companies which copy our technology, there is no substitution can replace the role of our products. Compared with traditional garbage can or recycle agency, our design has the huge advantage.

And we plan to set our bottle bank in the malls or schools with the permission of the local communities. If we are the first presentation in these places, after we build our equipment and take up that room, there is no point for those competitors duplicating the same bottle bank in the same place. Additionally, for those communities including schools and malls, that is going to be troublesome to build a new relationship with a fresh agency instead of keeping touch with the present company.

The substitutes & alternatives

There’s no any this kind of machine or even similar one comes up in Calgary, or our hometowns in China. Our bottle bank can be placed near garbage bin, which is much more convenient and valuable than regular bins for the customers. The only possible rival would be the company which want to copy our idea. But after we are the first presentation to do this design, there is no point for them to do the same stuff as us in the same city.

The Key Personas and the Value They See

Our first key persona

Our first key person is beverage drinker.

They care because finding a good machine to throw away their garbage containers with getting their money back would be excellent.

Our promise to them is we will try our best to keep the machine running fast and stable for letting everyone get their money back in the best way.

Our second key persona

Our second key person is employee in the mall.

They care because helping them clear up the space and improving their traffic are the benefits that they would love to see.

Our promise to them is we will offer the coupon option to customers for increasing their present possibility to the store.

Our third key persona

Our third key person is government.

They care because increasing the public awareness on doing recycle would be a kind of candy of what they want to see.

Our promise to them is we will try our best to attract customers as much as we can for spreading the awareness of recycle as far as possible.

I like the idea because recycling can be an issue in some malls where people just throw it in the trash or take the recyclables home. How will you plan to generate revenue? Will you charge a flat rate for places to install the device or will you take a few cents off every recyclable? I like how you were very explicit about your substitutes and competencies – doesn’t leave people guessing. My suggestion for improving the pitch is possibly have someone clicking through the slides so you don’t have to go back and forth from presenting and clicking. Mention your goals for the future. 5 year plan? Expansion? What help do you need in the future?

I think the idea of your machine is great, and your pitch was really well done. I really liked the video demonstration.

I think it would be beneficial if you explained the economics of your idea better. For example you could explain what percentage of the beverage recycling refund the beverage drinkers get,

I think one problem that may prevent university campuses or malls from adopting these devices is that they (or a waste management company) are the ones getting the refunds right now, so why would they want to give that up? Maybe if your company took over for picking up and taking the bottles to a bottle depot, then they may be more willing to adopt your machines.

I think when you are talking about substitutes and alternatives, you shouldn’t just say there are no other machines like this. Alternatives to your idea can also be that beverage drinkers can put their bottles in a recycling bin and get nothing, or they can make the trip to the bottle depot themselves. Your idea is better than these alternatives that exist right now, so I think you should highlight that, instead of saying there are no machines like this.

Overall I think you have a great concept, and I would certainly use it if we had one on campus.

The idea is a good one and will be popular if it comes out. However your distinctive competency is not strong enough, companies can actually copy your product and make it give more money and people will go for that option. Also your team was not properly introduced and I don’t know if you would be able to carry this out. I would work on the distinctive competency and also showing why the people on your team are the best to carry this idea out.

I liked that you showed a video of the machine in your pitch, it helps to prove that you’ve already done work to get it going.
One thing that could improve the pitch/page is saying how much money the customer gets back. Is it the equivalent of taking it to the bottle depot?
Additionally, it wasn’t clear how you intend to make a profit off of this system.
I am not completely convinced by your distinctive competencies. Yes, you could get an early advantage, but unless you are able to flood the market extremely quickly and build the required relations right away, it can be possible for someone who already has these relations to jump on the idea if they see worth in it.

I definitely love your idea as I am really tired of dealing with bottles and your way of doing pitch. The product is really special with great value.
I just noticed that groups of your customers are really big, and just wonder that how you could make sure that the product will be realized, as it is related to the local infrastructure.
I think you should have a more specific and accurate about your customers, its just not detailed enough.
I couldn’t fully understand how you will benefit from the product, maybe more explanations on that aspect will be better.
If your product was realized, there would be many other problems like the installation issues, warranty, and after-sale service. I think these are what you should consider seriously.

    Hey, great idea!

I think your pitch is awesome. I think you guys need to really nail down your customers more. I know in the majority of schools and malls, nowadays, they have garbages that really help separate beverage containers, from the garbage, which is super convenient. I think during peak hours (e.g. during lunch time) i am not sure if I as a ‘beverage drinker’ will want to wait for the machine to calculate my money back and have to pull out my debit credit card to get it back. That could definitely create some lineups and I just wouldn’t be interested in it in waiting for a couple cents. But maybe if you’re really trying to sell environment and such, it could help!

Overall, great idea! I would use, if it was quick and easy !

The product is really good and the offering is great. the pitch can be made better the price point and the numbers can be worked out for this. it would be better for understanding the whole model. looking forward to this idea to grow and come into the market, there is a value addition for this product if it is really released into the market.

This is really good idea, however:
-perhaps clarify the amount of money one would get back from a disposed bottle. I highly doubt you will be refunding the full cost of a beverage. Is it a percentage? Do the machine owners get anything?
-you can and should target the audience for more than just Calgary or your hometowns. This concept would work worldwide.
-there are alternatives and substitutes in existence now, so you shouldn’t just say that this machine doesn’t exist. There are recycling bins, garbage cans, etc. You just don’t get anything back…..which is why your idea is innovative.
-the persona of an employee in a mall is very specific. This technically can apply to all people anywhere. As well, where would the money be refunded to: the employee or the mall owners who decided to utilize these machines?
-provide more detail about the team and their knowledge/experiences

This was the good idea I was impressed when you pitch in Tuesday class. Idea is good if it really goes to next level to reach public. Because still I see some people throw their garbage every where and no concern about cleanliness.. ofcourse , when it gives some money or bonus sure every one will start attracted towards.. Yes if you make idea specific to start in our university, that would help you to go next level I think..

Hoping to see in the final pitch..

Very good pitch and a very very good idea. Listening to your pitch I looked around in my room and found about 50 bottles/cans (believe me). I paid the bottle deposit fee for each of these which I will never get back since I don`t want to take the pain of carrying all these to a bottle depot to get the money. You guys are providing the service on campus, So, it is easy for me.

The main point that is missing in your pitch is about the finances like what proportion do you pay for your customers, what proportion you charge for providing the service.

This operation involves a lot of logistics which might be difficult for your team to handle it. Figure out how to address it.

All the best for your next iteration….

The prototype shown in the video is very effective at promoting confidence in your team and your offering. Shows the viewers that your team is already capable of producing your idea.

I feel that your idea is however easily replicated by any competitor and the justification of them not wanting to compete with your already established brand only gives your idea a minor advantage. If a company sees that your idea can be profitable, they will quickly start attempting to compete with you and establish their own manufacturing relationships.

A method I suggest that could improve your competitive advantage is to research if your idea is patent-able. If you’re able to justify that your venture can be protected and your team is looking into doing so, it will give your idea a distinct advantage.

Otherwise, I feel like your pitch was very well done and everything else I didn’t mention only needs minor tweaking to score a 10!

Really a big idea, solve real question in our life.
If this can work, we can benefit a lot from it.
Instead of just throw the bottle away, we can get our money back.
For people who collect the bottle, they can save a lot time and space, still with the money in their hand.

Good idea! I will use it if we have one on campus.
It’s really practical for somelike me who don’t have a car to send the bottle to the recycle bin.
Maybe can change a little about the customer. Sell the machine to the mall or grovenment, they provide the reward and the counpon as them want, and they will benefit for the easlier collection process. Not only provide the machine at the mall, you may take the profit from the mall, which make a competition.
For the alternative part, it’s true that no any this kind of machine or even similar one comes up. But the waste management company may think that you take a part of their original income. Also, you need to consider where to put the machine, for the machine’s safety. In some place, the scavengers may break or destroy your machine because you took their bottles.

Nice pitch though. What am concern about is the financial aspect of the service. How will guys going to continually run the busy because I don’t think you know the problems this can lead to due to circulation of capital, I mean running capital. Also, how is it possible to out grow similar business out there has they have already gained the trust of their customer and it will be difficult to bet this.
Another issue I see is availability how long can you make this machine available or sustainable. This is usually the problem when it come to machineries.
About alternatives, your idea is better than having your bottles disposed off in garbage cans without having something to show for it like cash.
I think it will be a success if all factors are considered properly before embarking on this product.

Break it: I wouldn’t say there are no alternatives to this. I believe Bottle Depot does the same thing.

Better it: I would instead focus on stating how your machines are better alternative to bottle depot. Also, I would add a little description about the amounts customers will be receiving for each type of item.

I have lots of bottles in my room and i have to go the recycle center to get my money back. so if you can provide this machine, i definitely would use that. The idea is brilliant and is very much needed. We all have tons of bottles/cans that we’d never return properly because of the hassle of storing and carrying all of those to the bottle depot. The current system is just not feasible. Your proposed idea is a lot better and more attractive to the end users.
However, I think you could do a better job pitching it and explaining why your team has the best people to execute a project like this, talk a little bit more about the specialty of the team would build more credibility into the pitch.
