The Back Mower

Our Idea

Who are we?

A team of male petroleum and civil engineers.  One of our members has personal experience with back hair grooming issues and as result is very passionate about The Back Mower as a solution.  Collectively, we have have experience in engineering design, utilizing design software, and the marketing/advertisement of products.

What are we offering?

A extension rod that can attach to any trimmer and facilitate back hair removal comfortably. Ergonomic design where the rod can be adjusted for comfort. The $15 price makes it the most cost effective solution for those who already own a trimmer.

Who are we offering it to?

Primarily men with back hair who already own a trimmer, who live on their own and need to groom themselves frequently. A pre-persona we have identified that fits these characteristics is Moussa #theBusyStudent.

Why does that person care?

Avoids purchasing another trimmer just for the back. In addition, it allows for the process the be done comfortably on your own and can be easily/quickly be incorporated into a morning routine.

The Key Personas and the Value They See

Moussa the busy student

Our first key person is Moussa the busy student. Moussa is a graduate student and his time is consistently being occupied with academic commitments. As a result, he really values his time. Moussa struggles with back hair grooming and constantly finds himself struggling to comfortably remove his back hair with the regular trimmer he already owns. As a student, he does not want to buy an expensive specialized trimmer just for his back or get it groomed at a salon.

Moussa likes the idea of a trimmer extension because it is a cheap solution to deal with his back hair. He is excited to make back hair grooming quick and comfortable with the Back Mower.

Tami the Girlfriend

Our second key persona is Tami. Tami has a boyfriend who has a lot of back hair and offers to help him shave it regularly. She does not enjoy this because it takes away from her time which she really values as a graduate student.

Tami is excited by the idea that the Back Mower will allow her boyfriend to shave his back by himself. This will also free up a lot of time in the morning which she is looking forward to.

The pitch was smooth and made effective use of a pretendotype. Furthermore, you presented confidently.

I think that there is no quick fix for the back hair problem at this point in time. I think the buddy system is necessary because it would be relatively easy to either cut yourself with limited precision.

I would disprove any skepticism by showing a video of something actually successfully using it.

    Bullet by bullet:
The customer base is well defined and it is valid, I know friends for whom back hair is a huge deal and frankly I don’t know how they overcome this.
This looks like a painkiller product for the potential customer, so yes at least I think they would buy it, may it only be for the sake of trying since the most effective alternative (laser removal) is way more expensive,
Frankly I think the mentioned alternative laser removal; although it may not be in reach for some, it is a one time permanent solution so it is the ultimate painkiller. Price point is reasonable not to deter the customer,
We sadly don’t hear anything about the team composition, probably due to being a 90 second pitch.
Since this is a one time purchase for the customer base, self sustainability of the venture is in question. And this discomfort is not common in Canada, it is more of an oriental affliction.
The prototype is nice, it looks functional but it is very easy to imitate. Patenting is unfortunately not the ultimate solution for copycats because then the venture must be financially capable to follow legal action against every venture trying to imitate.

All in all, the problem is there and a valid solution is offered. Team introduction must be included in the pitch competency aspect should be somehow enhanced.

Great pitch. Really engrossing and the idea will be quite useful. If you guys move ahead with this, maybe add a back-scratcher as well. In terms of patenting the design, how patent-able is the design? There are numerous ways to get around a patent so keep that in my mind.

The speaker made a good pitch to help me have a brief understanding of their ideation.
