College Pay Station

A mobile user interface for students to make transactions on college campuses.

Our Idea

Who are we?

Hello! My name is Ben Alpern. I graduated this summer with a degree in Sport Management from the University of Tampa. After living on campus for 3 years and playing four years of college soccer, I was able to eat a lot of food. So much food that I was able to run out of my meals and school dollars on a consistent semester basis. It is not a great feeling when you can’t pay for your food, especially being a student and I started to realize that this happened to other students as well. I asked myself, “Why was this happening?”

What are we offering?

An application or service for college students where they can manage and monitor their meal plans and school dollars. The more the student uses that card, the more reward points the students collect and can use on on-campus retail locations.

Who are we offering it to?

We are offering this service to students, but want universities to realize that building relationships with the student body can make an impact on how a student makes transactions on-campus.

Why does that person care?

Students at the University of Tampa have different meal plans. But, one thing that they have in common is a student ID card. What the student ID card can’t do is tell you how much money is left in your account. Plus, when students at the University of Tampa reload their ID card on a computer, it takes 48 hours for the transaction to be completed. And that can’t happen unless students know that they can reload their card.

Our distinctive competencies

College Pay Station is meant to make the University of Tampa’s transactional process faster and more efficient. The application will keep their account information updated so that students know exactly what they have. Forwarding money into a student account will be done with a handful of taps. Lastly, students can acquire rewards points that can be used for future purchases.

The substitutes & alternatives

Some colleges and universities have their own mobile app, which has information on upcoming events, food menus and general on-campus information, like building locations and hours. Some have the ability to check their accounts, but they have to reload on their student portal with their computer.

Our Pitch

Our personal pitch

The Value

Our first key person

Our first key person is the University of Tampa.

They care because providing this service to them gives students a better opportunity to reload money on their ID card with their phone.

Our promise to them is that this service will build stronger relationships with the students.

Our second key person

Our second key person is the student.

They care because they make transactions on campus everyday. It is part of their routine.

Our promise to them is that we are not changing their routine. We are accelerating the process by letting them know what is in their account.

Our third key person

Our third key person is the parent.

They care because students are making purchases everyday on campus while parents are the ones who select the best meal plan for their son or daughter.

Our promise to them is that this service will help them keep track of what their son or daughter purchases in real-time.
